It’s certainly the best place to stay in West Mailing if you want to enjoy the scenery and relax in one of Kent’s rural towns. Natural textures and earthy materials, like clay work walls and banana leaf lights, abound. Plus, there is an array of diverse artwork everywhere.
The Francesca room is quite cosy but easily big enough to fit suitcases and the super-king-size bed. It has two sash windows overlooking the orangery that provide great natural light. The Isabella is a bit larger and full of character. It features the building’s original shuttered windows and panelled walls.
The Carla is big with a super-king-sized bed, cosy sofa, and dark blue tongue-and-groove walls. The last room, Sophia, is the largest, and its spacious bathroom is the only one with a roll-top bathtub, walk-in shower, and his-and-her sinks.
This high-end B&B in Kent is near Maidstone, King’s Hill, and Wrotham. Best of all, it only takes about 45 minutes to get to London. You can take the train or drive, and the boutique hotel in West Malling is great for weekend getaways or even a business trip.
Food At St. Leonard’s During Your Stay
Stays at the hotel often revolve around food, with homemade biscuits and espresso machines in rooms. You’ll also most certainly want to take advantage of the brunch that includes granola, braised short rib over hash browns, Eggs Benedict, Royale, Florentine, and fruit pancakes.
Kentish roots inspire the St. Leonard menu, and you’ll find plenty of seasonal ingredients from local farmers listed. Every dish has European twists and contemporary influences that add colour and spice to West Malling’s rural charm.
The bed and breakfast restaurant and hotel is a destination in its own right, and not just for those staying overnight. The light, airy restaurant provides elegant, wonderfully prepared food that is luxurious without being too stuffy.
A glance at the menu, including homemade “Caraway bread and sea salt butter,” will have you drooling before you even enter the door. The hotel includes breakfast with your stay. A lovely brunch in the downstairs restaurant is available at 9 am from Wednesday to Sunday. Early risers can also enjoy pastries, homemade granola, yoghurt, and preserves right from bed, and you’re a stone’s throw away from a great coffee shop.
